Makerspace Tuesdays
The Prairie Hills Library Medica Center has a wonderful Makerspace where student can come and innovate and create. Students can do activities such as programing the Dash and Dot robots, building with Legos on the Lego table, and much, more! Studies have shown that students become more interested in STEM education when they are introduced to it earlier. Makerspace offers collaborative working spaces, provides practical experiences, helps attract underrepresented groups, creates more opportunities for hands-on experiences, provides equipment for all learning levels, uses technology to teach and create in different ways, and fosters innovation. If students are interested in coming to the Makerspace, they need to talk with their classroom teacher.
Battle of the Books
5th grade students who love to read and want a challenge are invited to participate in the Battle of the Books. In the spring, students will compete with schools around the city in a trivia competition over 40 books. The questions are based on the 40 novels that students have read. A list of the books and more information is available in the library. You can also talk with Mrs. Randall, our school's sponsor. If you are in 3rd or 4th grade and would like to participate when you are in 5th grade, you can always start reading some of the novels now. See Mrs. Steel for where to find the Battle Books in the library.
